It is my pride, privilege and honour to act as MSVP from the inception of this newly formed medical college to provide health care facilities to large number of needy people coming from different parts of district North 24 Parganas and adjacent catchment areas. The existing Barasat District Hospital (BDH), a pioneer in West Bengal Health Care System, has been adopted and...
converted to Barasat Government Medical College & Hospital (BGMCH). Presently it is equipped with 600 Indoor beds including different types of critical care services like CCU, ICCU, SNCU, PICU, NICU etc. This hospital is catering huge number of people with all broad specialty facilities along with 24x7 diagnostic facility and Blood Bank services. A well-established Nursing Training School within this campus is an added advantage of this medical college. This hospital is also actively participating for successfully implementation of different State and Central Government health projects for many years. The conversion process of this BDH to BGMCH is progressing vary rapidly with the construction of Academic Building (G+6), Boy’s Hostel (G+9), Girl’s Hostel (G+9), Nurse’s Accommodation (G+6), quarters for teaching staffs(G+9) , quarters for non- teaching staffs(G+9) and OPD complex (G+9). The necessary renovations of existing hospital and augmentation of patient care services is also done as per the need of the medical college. I hope in future Barasat Government Medical College & Hospital (BGMCH) will play a leading role as peripheral medical college with significant contribution in the Health Care Systems by providing good doctors in one hand and exerting different kind of modern health care facilities on the other hand. Barasat Government Medical College and Hospital is a newly developed medical college under CSS II. This Medical College is situated on a 20.53 acres land in the existing campus of Barasat District Hospital, Barasat, Mouza-Banamalipur (JL No:- 80) & Uttarhat (JL No:-78) North 24 parganas, West Bengal. PIN-700124. As at present North 24 Parganas is the most populous District in India so the establishment of this Medical Institution will cater patients care service to a large population.
Directorate of Medical Education, Government of West Bengal is the regulatory authority.100 MBBS students. Students will be admitted annually through NEET(NATIONAL ELIGIBILITY CUM ENTRANCE TEST) (UG) from 2022-23 session after obtaining from letter of permission from National Medical Council.
DNB courses on different disciplines with a total of 16 seats allotted by NBE are already running in this Institution.
The foundation stone of this Medical College was laid by Honbl’e Chief Minister of West Bengal Smt Mamata Banerjee on 22nd February, 2019.
The Barasat Government Medical College and Hospital College is comprising of teaching block, administrative block, a new OPD complex, Students’ hostel, residents’ doctors’ quarters, Nurses’ quarters, Teaching staffs’ quarters and Non-Teaching staffs’ quarters.
